Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor, Inc. has yet to meet its goal of raising $70,000 to cover costs and remain open. 90% of our budget comes from donations, and these have decreased. Below, you will find a breakdown of our budget, our 2024 impact, and how your recurring, monthly donation can help.
BUDGET
Salaries are a big part of the overall budget. We have a Director, a Facility Manager and a cook that all work 20-30 hours each week running the day shelter. We are only open to the public for 4 hours on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and then 8 hours on Saturday for youth only, but meal prep begins 2 hours before we open and cleaning continues after we close. We also have a bookkeeper and an accountant.
Out of our budget, we pay for insurance, workman's comp, office expenses, cleaning supplies, pest control, mileage, maintenance (we often have to repair things like washers, dryers, kitchen appliances, security cameras, computers, etc., and other general overhead, but we also buy things like: Hygiene supplies, towels and washcloths to give our clients when they take showers; laundry detergent for our facility (several loads each day) and for clients to do their laundry; and food for both our meals and the ready-to-eat meal kits we prepare.
Socorro County, and donations from John Brooks, do help offset these costs, but we still have to purchase a lot of food items to fill in the gaps. Single-use items like napkins, to-go containers, paper towels, toilet paper, cups, plates, forks, spoons, tinfoil, parchment paper, trash bags, etc., are not donated and must be purchased. We also purchase first aid supplies, feminine hygiene products, underwear, diapers, tents, and sleeping bags. Thankfully, community members donate some of these items, but not nearly enough.
The cost for all of these supplies, overhead, and salaries for the first 6 months of the year was 64,609.73.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
If 2,000 families in Socorro pledged just $10 a month to Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor, Inc., we would more than meet our goals. That is the cost of one fancy, delicious coffee at Que Suave! Please consider making a recurring donation to Puerto Seguro today. Your generosity will help the over 800 people we serve throughout the year, including over 150 youth and young adults aged 18-25 and at least 76 children under the age of 18.
Check out this flyer for our Saturday Center, serving youth exclusively. This is above and beyond the day shelter that runs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
