Message from Shay, Board Chair

Hello everyone!

Thanks to your generosity, we have raised $9,585.10 toward our goal of $70,000! This includes major support from Socorro Electric Cooperative, as well as dozens of donations from local community members who are supporting our efforts. Thank you, and please keep thinking of us as we work to continue providing the full scope of our services throughout the coming weeks. Your assistance is essential to our work!

I'd also like to share a snapshot of our service data, so that you have an idea of where the money goes and who we are serving.

The unduplicated number of distinct individuals accessing our services is over 800

throughout the year, including over 150 youth and young adults aged 18-25 and at least 76

children under the age of 18. Some of these individuals access our services every day that

we are open, and some are transient, or only need services during a short period of crisis.

We collect data to provide these statistics both at our front desk, where we collect

basic demographic information, and during case management services, via the in-depth

interviews conducted by the director.

In 2024, Puerto Seguro provided the following services:

• Served over 9,600 hot meals

• Distributed over 7,200 ready-to-eat meal kits and pantry food boxes

• Provided over 1,700 hot showers and hygiene kits

• Provided almost 1,000 loads of laundry

• Distributed over 3,000 pairs of socks and underwear

• Provided Rent and Utility assistance to over 60 families

• Provided transportation assistance or car repairs to over 20 individuals

• Provided assistance with obtaining identification/birth records to >20 people

• Provided tents, sleeping bags or bedding to over 350 people

• Provided hotel rooms to especially vulnerable people on over 50 occasions.

We are stretching every dollar that you send our way, and doing our absolute best to respond to the need in Socorro and the surrounding communities. Please see our monthly impact statement from July, where I've included some data on our Cooling Center program.
