Food Drive a Success!

Updated: Jul 24

Puerto Seguro Safe Harbor had a successful food drive in front of Walmart on Saturday, July 20, 2024. Many thanks to all the folks who donated! ❤️ We wish to offer special appreciation to Nick, John, Rae, Ruben, and all the other volunteers that came out to stand in the heat and run the booth. You are the best!

Thanks to your generosity, we collected over 800 pounds of donations that will stock the Puerto Seguro pantry with ready-to-eat food items for unsheltered folks who have no way to cook. (These food items are separate from the hot meals Puerto Seguro prepares and serves on Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays at our main building.)

Thanks to generous contributions of ready-to-eat, shelf stable foods that require no cooking, Puerto Seguro can continue to distribute up to 40 meal kits each day of service—over 500 meals a month! We couldn't do it without your support.

A note from Shay, the PSI Board Chair:

"In total, 916 pounds of pantry items were donated, including 7 tents, a wheelchair, and $282 in cash. The pantry donations should provide more than 500 meal kits over the next 4 weeks. The volunteer support was fantastic, with 3 people working all day, and 4 more working in shifts. It was hot, but the canopy helped a lot and the rain held off until the evening. Thank you for coming out! Great work leading and organizing everything, Nick! And lots of gratitude to Ruben for running loads and sorting all the donations!"

Thank you, Socorro!

We are still in need of powdered drink mixes (big ones for the drink coolers in the cafeteria during lunch) like lemonade, tea or Gatorade mix. Donations of coffee, feminine hygiene supplies, flashlights, umbrellas, and ponchos are also appreciated.
